Hot Pixels Growth in ACS CCDs

We present an analysis of the hot pixel population in ACS CCDs. The number of hot pixels increases due to on-orbit radiation damage. In order to heal the defects responsible for the hot pixels, the CCDs are heated once a month. We review the effectiveness of the anneal process.

Analysis of Dark Current in BRITE Nanostellite CCD Sensors †

The BRightest Target Explorer (BRITE) is the pioneering nanosatellite mission dedicated for photometric observations of the brightest stars in the sky. The BRITE charge coupled device (CCD) sensors are poorly shielded against extensive flux of energetic particles which constantly induce defects in the silicon lattice. In this paper we investigate the temporal evolution of the generation of the ...

Current Imaging using Magnetic Field Sensors

As process technologies of integrated circuits become more complex and the industry moves toward advanced packaging like flip-chip and stacked die, present tools and techniques are having increasing difficulty in meeting failure analysis needs [1]. With gate sizes approaching 65 nm, “killer defects” may only be a few nanometers in size. In some cases, the defects are nonvisible, i.e. there is n...

Paper Dark Current Characterization of Low-noise CMOS Global Shutter Pixels Using Pinned Storage Diodes

This paper describes dark current characterization of two-stage charge transfer pixels, which enable a global shuttering and kTC noise canceling. The proposed pixel uses pinned diode structures for the photodiode (PD) as well as the storage diode (SD), thereby a very low dark current is expected. In this paper, effects of negative gate biasing and temperature dependency are discussed with devic...

Dark Current Reduction Techniques for Wide Dynamic Range Logarithmic CMOS Pixels

CMOS logarithmic pixels are capable of simultaneously imaging more than 6 decades of light intensity. However, their low light sensitivity is limited by the inherent leakage current of a CMOS process that flows through the load transistor in the pixel in parallel with the photocurrent. In this paper, we will discuss various approaches based on process, circuits and layouts to reduce this dark c...
